The advancements in trigger technology have revolutionized how firearm enthusiasts, competitive shooters, and tactical professionals approach their craft. Among these innovations, forced reset triggers (FRTs) have played a significant role in enhancing speed, precision, and shooting performance. Products like the Rare Breed Trigger and the FRT-15 have not only shaped the trajectory of FRT technology but also set new standards for what shooters can achieve with modern firearms. This article takes a closer look at the evolution of forced reset triggers, from their origins to their current market dominance and beyond. FRT.

Understanding Forced Reset Triggers

Before we trace their evolution, it’s important to understand what FRTs are and why they’ve become a game-changer. Forced reset triggers optimize the firing cycle by mechanically returning the trigger to its reset position after a shot, using the firearm’s natural bolt cycling process. This allows for significantly faster follow-up shots without altering the firearm's semi-automatic classification under federal laws.

The development of this technology is rooted in a quest for high-speed firing capabilities without crossing the legal threshold into fully automatic weaponry. The brilliance of FRTs lies in their ability to combine enhanced performance with compliance, making them popular among shooters of all skill levels.

Milestones in the Development of Forced Reset Triggers

1. The Emergence of Forced Reset Technology

The origins of forced reset triggers can be traced to efforts to improve trigger mechanisms for competitive and tactical use. Traditional triggers required manual reset after firing, which slowed down follow-up shots. This limitation motivated developers to innovate designs that paired faster resets with reliability.

While early iterations of forced reset technology were functional, they were more niche products tailored to a very small audience. Many of these triggers lacked standardization or mass-market appeal, limiting their reach.

2. The Rise of Rare Breed Triggers

Rare Breed Triggers entered the market with a breakthrough product that quickly gained attention as a frontrunner in FRT technology. The Rare Breed Trigger was engineered to maximize firing speed without sacrificing control or compliance with firearm laws. Its robust construction and user-friendly design set it apart from earlier models, making it more accessible to a wider audience.

Key Innovations Introduced with Rare Breed Triggers:

• Patented forced reset mechanism that worked seamlessly with AR-15 platforms.
• Improved durability thanks to premium materials such as hardened steel.
• Enhanced consistency for competitive shooters and tactical professionals.

The Rare Breed Trigger was pivotal in establishing forced reset triggers as mainstream firearm accessories rather than niche innovations. Its success also inspired further competition and innovation in the industry.

3. The Introduction of the FRT-15

Building on the momentum created by earlier models, the FRT-15 pushed the boundaries of forced reset trigger technology. Launched as a high-performance enhancement for AR-15 rifles, the FRT-15 is often considered the new gold standard for FRTs.

What the FRT-15 Brought to the Table:

• Precision Engineering: With tighter tolerances and advanced components, the FRT-15 delivered a smoother, more predictable reset mechanism.
• Enhanced Durability: Utilizing premium-grade materials, the FRT-15 was engineered to withstand tens of thousands of cycles under rigorous use.
• Optimized Performance for Tactical Use: While maintaining seamless compatibility with AR-15 platforms, the FRT-15 targeted tactical professionals who required reliability during high-intensity operations.

The FRT-15 represented an evolution in how FRTs were designed, moving from simple upgrades to professional-grade tools capable of transforming firearm performance. Competitive shooters, law enforcement, and hobbyists were quick to recognize its advantages, cementing its place in the forced reset trigger market.

4. Legal and Market Challenges

Despite their innovations, forced reset triggers have faced increasing legal scrutiny. Regulatory agencies have examined their ability to mirror automatic fire rates, raising questions about compliance with firearm laws. This scrutiny has led to lawsuits, product seizures, and a complex legal landscape for manufacturers and users alike.

Nevertheless, the popularity of FRTs persists, with both Rare Breed Triggers and the FRT-15 becoming symbols of innovation and resilience in the face of challenges. The legal debates have also sparked technical advancements, as manufacturers work to ensure their products remain compliant while delivering unmatched performance.

How Rare Breed and FRT-15 Have Shaped the Market

1. Widespread Adoption Among Various User Groups

Both the Rare Breed Trigger and FRT-15 expanded the appeal of forced reset technology to a broader audience. Competitive shooters, recreational enthusiasts, and tactical professionals alike began incorporating these tools into their firearm setups.

The ability to enhance firing speed without transitioning to fully automatic firearms made these triggers accessible to hobbyists who wanted to build up their skills and capabilities at the range.

2. Standardization of Quality and Performance

Rare Breed and FRT-15 introduced benchmarks for what shooters could expect from forced reset triggers. Reliable, durable, and consistent performance became the norm, paving the way for smaller manufacturers to compete while maintaining similar standards.

3. Driving Innovation in Accessories

The success of Rare Breed and FRT-15 inspired the development of complementary firearm accessories, including advanced bolt carrier groups, recoil management systems, and upgraded springs. These innovations collectively enhanced the shooter’s experience, creating a robust ecosystem of products around forced reset technology.

The Future of Forced Reset Triggers

As forced reset triggers continue to evolve, the future holds exciting possibilities for innovation and refinement:

• More Versatile Designs: Future FRT models may focus on adaptability, working across a broader range of firearm platforms to attract an even wider audience.
• Smart Trigger Technology: Technology like electronic or programmable triggers could combine with forced reset principles to deliver unparalleled customization and control.
• Improved Legal Clarity: Manufacturers are likely to work more closely with regulatory agencies to create compliant designs that avoid the legal ambiguities currently attached to FRTs.
