Fake World Cup tickets are a major threat. FIFA has issued specific warnings. Fan organizations have reported widespread scam activity. Here is how to protect yourself completely.
HOW FAKES WORK IN 2026
All 2026 World Cup tickets are digital. No FIFA World Cup 2026 Tickets exist. Scammers exploit this in several ways:
Fake FIFA websites: Lookalike sites mimic FIFA.com's design and collect payment and FIFA account credentials without delivering anything. Your money disappears. Your credentials may be used to access your real FIFA account and steal your genuine tickets.
Screenshot scams: Scammers take screenshots of real barcodes and sell them. A screenshot barcode may pass an initial look but fails authentication at the gate because it is not an active in-app display and the original ticket holder's scan has priority.
Advance payment disappearance: A seller on social media or an unknown website accepts payment and stops responding. No ticket ever arrives.
OFFICIAL FIFA WARNINGS
FIFA specifically warned fans that only FIFA.com/tickets is the official sales and resale platform. FIFA has published advisories about fake websites using URLs designed to look similar to the official address.
Always check the exact URL before entering any payment information. The official address is FIFA.com. Not fifaltickets.com. Not worldcup2026tix.com. Not any variation of these.
HOW TO VERIFY A TICKET IS REAL
Request the seller to transfer the ticket to your FIFA ID through the official FIFA transfer system before you pay. Once the ticket appears in your FIFA account and your FIFA app, it is real. If the seller refuses to transfer first, they do not have a real ticket.
IF YOU ARE SCAMMED
Contact your credit card company immediately. Credit card chargebacks are your primary recourse. Window is typically 60 to 120 days. Do not use wire transfers, cryptocurrency or unprotected payment methods for any ticket purchase.
